The Beaka Fairy Visits

Harrison is about to go through a major milestone with us taking away his "beaka," aka pacifier. He knows that tonight the fairy will be coming and in the morning his beloved beaka will be gone and replaced with a small present...Fire, his new bugged-eye fish! I hope this transition is fast and painless, but for some reason I am thinking it is going to be the complete opposite as this has been the only soother that has worked for our non-self soothing child. Wish us luck!

The Beaka Fairy brought you a wonderful gift! I simply adore the name you gave him... Fire is going to be one lucky little fish to have such a brave and responsible owner as you, Harrison. You are such a big boy now!

Love,
LuLu

Dying to hear how it went and how it's going? I feel for him, reminds me of giving up cigarettes! Hang in there all!

Well, we all survived the first night. There was LOTS of crying/whimpering throughout the night and this morning was a little rough. We are doing a lot of talking about why she came & how huge this is for him...in terms of growing up. He threw the beaka away yesterday afternoon because there were so many cuts & a hole where "she" had sucked out the air. He did not like how it was broken...lots of reminders about him throwing it away. I think by the end of the week things will be better, if only we did not have his 3yr vaccinations on Thursday. Darn.

He loves having a fish & being responsible for feeding him. He told us yesterday that he thought he needed a "daddy" because he looked lonely:(

Oh, pobrecito chiquitín. :( I hope that tonight goes better for all. But A+ parenting skills, Garst-Hoffmans! Love the fish, love the fairy, love the festive bowl and the big-boy talk - I'm sure that the plan will work. Lots of love and luck from SoDak!
